Helping families in Haiti
This exerpt was taken from a letter that was sent our way by the St. Albert Chamber of Commerce.
For those looking for guidance on the best way to help families in Haiti - you may find this helpful.
"The fastest and most effective way to help is by donating money to the relief organizations that have the knowledge and infrastructure to deliver assistance where it’s needed most. A list of those organizations is available on the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Department’s web site at this address:
http://www.international.gc.ca/humanitarian-humanitaire/canadians_help-aide_canadien.aspx.  For its part, the federal government is earmarking up to $50 million to match Canadians' donations to charities aiding relief efforts in Haiti.

"We played our first three games in group B and managed to win each game by 1 goal difference which created quite a buzz with the parents who really enjoyed this nail biting experience. We crossed over for the Gold medal competition only to meet a much stronger team from a higher tier and giving it our very best, it was not good enough and we had to settle for the Silver Medal and a party at Boston Pizza. Great experience and good time."

St. Albert U-12 Girls Tier 2 Impact Soccer Team

The girls team participated on November 11th 2009, in the SOS THE AMERICAS torch relay which goes from Alaska to Argentina. It will finish in 2011. The torch is being carried from city to city to bring a higher awareness for organ and tissue donation. The organizer of the event is a recipient himself and hopes one day that no one will have to be on a waiting list for organ or tissue transplants. Our girls ran from Edmonton City Hall, after meeting Mayor Mandel, to the Legislative Grounds taking turns holding the Torch of Life.
The parents, coaches, Mayor Mandel and organizers were very impressed with the girls for being so enthusiastic and willingly participating in a worthwhile cause. The girls created posters and a cheer to use during their run.
Way to go girls!!

Congratulation U12 Tier 2 Boys (Houle)

Earning a bronze medal last weekend in an 8 team field in Red Deer.  "We lost a very close match to the gold medal winner and got bumped to the bronze medal game, which the boys won.  They played hard on the field, and also at the team banquet and pool party.  J  It was a very good weekend."

Randy Herlein U16 Tier I Girls take the gold medal in the Mill Woods preseason tournie!
Played some very tough competition - but a great all round effort. Only had 10 players for the first game against the SE Storm (5-2), in the evening played Phoenix to a 3-1 win. Sunday, beat the Strikers 3-1 and beat the Raiders 2-0.   On top of that played their first 7v7 game of the season on Saturday and took that 1-0.   Whew - 3 games Saturday and 2 Sunday.  Girls are exhausted, but proud.   Well done team!

GM Making Dreams Possible

SASA would like to thank GM for their generous sponsorship to assist with coach training this year!  With their help we have 37 newly trained coaches making a difference in our program!   Kudos to our dedicated coaches for seeking out the knowledge to offer the best coaching skills possible to our program athletes.

Referee Liasion Program
Every year we train young referees, send them out to their first games, then never see many of them again - largely due to the abuse they sometimes take for making a mistake.  First time on the job?  Of course they'll make mistakes.  Will they get better?  Absolutely. Are we there to help them?  We can't be everywhere at all times, but the answer is yes.  We have a great asset at SASA, Ken Kovacs, Ricky Haxby, and a number of other senior refs in St. Albert work with these young start up refs during tournaments and occasionally on an individual basis as time permits, but we need your help.
SASA has a Referee Liaison Program in effect for all games.  Details will be posted shortly under the Coaches area - we ask that all parents and coaches take this program to heart.  Please help us by being a part of the solution - don't be the person in this video - http://soccer-coaching-blog.com/2009/03/22/how-much-respect-do-you-show-the-referee/
