A message from St. Albert Soccer’s Executive Director, Chris Spaidal
We hope everyone is navigating through these difficult times with good health. After a few conference calls, there are a few updates in regards to the Outdoor 2020 Season:
- Community Season. There is still a belief for the Community Season to take place in its entirety. The start date will definitely be pushed back and the timeline of the program delivery may not be what we’re all used to but we will absolutely still be exploring all avenues to provide the children with a much-needed outlet of social bonding, outdoor activity, and engagement. Once the ban on activities is lifted, we will have measures in place to ensure a start date can take place as quickly as possible.
- Club (Impact) Season. There is still the intent to carry out the entire club season as well but many external factors will influence these decisions. We have received info from Alberta Soccer that they are awaiting further guidance from Canada Soccer in regards to health advisory perspectives and possible realistic timelines. Each province may have a different start date than others based on the severity/number of cases in each area. It is important that all confirmed Impact players register accordingly so that teams can be formed (as much as possible) and simple internal communication can continue. During these difficult financial times, there is the option to select “pay offline” with each registration so that no actual financial commitment needs to be submitted at this time and can be addressed at a more suitable time frame if needed.
- Facilities. All St Albert Rec Facilities have been closed off to the general public until at least May 31st. The snow will most likely be melted in advance of this date but the fields are still not to be accessed. There are other municipalities who also posted similar closure dates. Hopefully, all will align as closely as possible to ensure the overall needs are met as cohesion.
- SASA Office (61 Riel Drive). Our office is officially closed to the public until further notice but we do have staff working in the office in a skeleton format on a needs basis. All of our staff can be contacted via email and most responses can be expected within 24 hours of the time it was sent.
We will continue with the intent of providing some level of communication to our members on a weekly basis related to these matters. It is worth noting that there are various elements for all our youth members to participate in through the SASA and Impact social media platforms that will hopefully provide support through these times. It’s always important to have outlets for kids to be busy and/or occupied!
